The third series of UNEP and UNDP Training Workshops in frames of the ODS Phase Out Programme for Kazakhstan is over.
The last Workshop from the series developed for Northern and Central Kazakhstan, was conducted on May 7, 2003. The previous series were conducted in Southern and Western Kazakhstan.
The series started in Astana on April 23, 2003, and then continued in Karaganda, Kostanay, Kokshetau and Petropavlovsk.
The workshops were attended by 204 specialists from refrigerators service and repair companies.
After the workshops, participants received equipment for recovery and recycling of refrigerants. The equipment allow to collect, clean and reuse refrigerants without any losses.
In August - September 2003, the Climate Change Coordination Center plans to conduct the last series of Training Workshops, which will cover Eastern Kazakhstan (Pavlodar, Semipalatinsk, Ust-Kamenogorsk).
In order to attend the workshops, it is necessary to send an application form to the Climate Change Coordination Center as follows: 48 Abay str., room 102, Astana, 473000.
In the application form it is necessary to nominate a number of participants as well as provide information about annual consumption of ODS (R22, R12, R134a and other). This information is necessary to evaluate a company\'s capacity for distribution of the equipment.

National Training Workshop
"Good practice in maintenance and upkeep of refrigeration equipment and air conditioners, recovery and recycling of CFCs "
In 1998, Kazakhstan ratified the Vienna Convention on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and undertook obligations on subsequent phase out of ozone depleting substances (ODS).
To implement the obligations, Kazakhstan developed the Programme for Phasing Out Ozone Depleting Substances, which includes phasing-out CFCs through:
· Provision of large CFCs users and service centers with equipment on recovery and recycling of refrigerants;
· Introduction of the best practices in maintenance and upkeep of refrigeration equipment and air conditioners and conduction of tranings for technisians;
· Practical use of vacuumed refrigerant systems.
In frames of the Programme for Phasing Out Ozone Depleting Substances in Kazakhstan, Climate Change Coordination Center in cooperation with UNEP and UNDP starts training series for technicians on maintenance and upkeep of refrigeration equipment and air conditioners.
The Training Workshop "Good practice in maintenance and upkeep of refrigeration equipment and air conditioners, recovery and recycling of CFCs" will be conducted in Astana (23-25 April), Karaganda (28-30 April), Kostanay (2 May), Kokshetau (5 May), and Petropavlovsk (7 May).
The Workshop will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment Protection, CCCC, UNDP and companies dealing with maintenance and upkeep of refrigeration equipment and air conditioners.
Certificates of Participation will be given to specialists after completion of the training course and companies will be granted with modern equipment on recovery and recycling:
- Recovery and recycling machine;
- Refrigerant analyzer;
- Leak detector;
- Refrigerant storage cylinders;
- Recovery sets for CFC-12;
- Service tools and accessories;
